Complexity made simple
Complexity...
We live and work in a complex world, whether we like to know about it or not and whether we like it or not. The Hofstede model acknowledges the complexity of work life, by containing eight (semi-)autonomous dimensions. The Hofstede model is with eight dimensions rather complex. When we compare e.g. the model of Quinn and Camerone, consisting of two dimensions, with ours this can be made clear as follows:
The 2 dimensions of Quinn and Camerone create 1 diagram consisting of 4 quadrants. When combining 8 dimensions just one by one, we get 28 diagrams with each 4 quadrants. The number of combinations in the case of 8 dimensions does not stop here, as we may also want to combine more than 2 dimensions at the same time. But even then, the story doesn't stop here as we found that detailed information which is loading the different dimensions may give additional salient information.
Until recently, our certified consultants had to write their own reports based on the numbers generated by our quick scans, presented in what we call "response files". This was a tough task so that not all of them used all available information. As a matter of fact one should anyway not include all information in a report as this would overload the client. One should especially present salient information; i.e. salient gaps between the actual and optimal culture and salient deviations from the norm.
...made simple
We have overcome this problem only recently by a partnership with FeedbackDialog, a Finnish IT company. Their report generating software allows consultants to focus on the change journey instead of translating our "response files" into a digestible report.
